About Cambridge and The Local Community
Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are two universities in Cambridge. Cambridge MA was named after Cambridge England. The city has are over 100,000 residents.
Some of the unique aspects of Cambridge include its diverse population both in affluence and racial diversity. Cambridge is also known for its extremely liberal politics. For example, at Cambridge City Hall, the first legal applications for gay marriage in America were issued. The city is often considered “Boston’s left bank” and Harvard has been called the “Kremlin on the Charles.”
But Cambridge is still considered the “City of Squares.” The streets of Cambridge were formed centuries ago and are not symetric, in fact, Harvard Square is made of two converging curved streets.
The neighborhood centers or “Squares” include Kendall Square, Central Square, Harvard Square, Porter Square, Inman Square, Davis Square, and Lechmere Square. We are near the neighborhood of Somerville with experienced optometrists ready to serve you.
